Flounder

Port O'Connor is a renowned destination for flounder fishing, particularly during the fall flounder run. These flatfish migrate out of the bays and into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn, creating excellent gigging and angling opportunities. Focus your efforts around the mouths of bayous and channels leading to the Gulf. Live mud minnows or finger mullet fished on the bottom are highly effective. A local tactic: drift fishing along the edges of channels can be a productive way to cover ground. Also, night-time gigging in the shallow flats is a popular method. Be aware of the tide; flounder tend to be more active during periods of moving water. A practical tip: the boat ramp at the end of Main Street provides convenient access to the bay system. The flounder in this region are known for their relatively large size compared to other areas along the Texas coast.
