Flounder

If you're hunting Flounder in the Point Comfort area, you're in luck – the shallow bays and estuaries offer excellent habitat. These flatfish are ambush predators, so concentrate your efforts around muddy or sandy bottoms near grass beds, channels, and docks. The fall months are legendary for Flounder gigging, but they can also be caught year-round with rod and reel. Live shrimp or mud minnows fished on the bottom are highly effective. A local tip: try fishing around lighted docks at night, as these lights attract baitfish and, in turn, Flounder. Another productive technique is slowly dragging a jig along the bottom. Keep an eye on the tide, as Flounder often move with the current to find feeding opportunities. Remember to check the Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations for size and bag limits before you start.
