Smallmouth Bass Fishing in Pelican Rapids, MN

While Pelican Rapids is better known for its Largemouth Bass, there are still opportunities to tangle with Smallmouth Bass. Focus your efforts on the Otter Tail River and the lakes it feeds. Look for rocky shorelines, submerged boulders, and current breaks – these are prime Smallmouth hangouts. Early summer, after the spawn, and fall are excellent times to target them. Try using crankbaits and tubes to cover water quickly, or finesse techniques like drop-shotting in deeper areas. Access to the Otter Tail River is available at several bridge crossings and public access points, but be aware of fluctuating water levels, especially after heavy rains. The Smallmouth population in this region isn't as abundant as Largemouth, but the fish you do find tend to be scrappy and aggressive fighters. Consider using slightly heavier tackle than you would for Largemouth, as the river can have snags and strong currents.
