Flounder

If you're looking to tangle with some flounder, Rockport, Texas offers some excellent opportunities, especially in the fall as they migrate into the bays. Focus your efforts in areas with muddy or sandy bottoms near the mouths of bayous and channels that drain into Aransas Bay, Copano Bay, and St. Charles Bay. These areas provide ideal ambush points for flounder feeding on shrimp and small fish. Water clarity is key, so target areas where the water is relatively clear, even if it's only a foot or two. A falling tide can concentrate bait and trigger feeding. For access, the boat ramp at Cove Harbor is a popular choice, offering quick access to productive fishing grounds. Try slowly dragging a Carolina-rigged mud minnow or Gulp! shrimp along the bottom. Remember to adjust your presentation based on the current and water temperature; a slower retrieve is often more effective in cooler water. Rockport's flounder are known for their relatively large size, so be prepared for a good fight.
