If you're looking for some exciting flatfish action, Port Lavaca offers excellent opportunities for flounder fishing, particularly in the fall as they migrate into the bays before heading offshore. Focus your efforts around the bayous and back lakes connected to Lavaca Bay and Matagorda Bay. These areas hold plenty of baitfish that attract flounder. The mouths of creeks draining into the bays are also prime spots. Look for areas with muddy or sandy bottoms near structure like docks, piers, and oyster reefs. A falling tide can concentrate flounder, making it an ideal time to fish. For best results, use a Carolina rig with live mullet or mud minnows, or try slowly bouncing a soft plastic grub along the bottom. Remember to adjust your presentation based on water clarity; clearer water calls for longer leaders and lighter line.
